About
Diane Lam is the principal of Diane Lam Design, a woman-owned interior design firm specializing in public libraries and education environments. With over 30 years of experience in contract, education, and library furnishings, Diane brings unparalleled expertise to every project—whether collaborating with leading architectural firms or working directly with end users like university planning departments, municipal agencies, and library staff.
Diane provides full-scope FF&E consulting, including programming, layout and selection, budgeting, procurement strategy, and project management through installation. Her work spans all learning environments—from early childhood and K–12 classrooms to community colleges, universities, and both public and academic libraries.
With deep expertise in learning environments, Diane understands how physical space can inspire engagement, curiosity, and collaboration. Her design philosophy centers on the belief that learning is enriched by the built environment—through thoughtful choices in color, materials, furniture, and equipment—all tailored to the architecture, location, and community.
Diane’s lifelong passion for libraries began with weekly childhood visits to her local branch—experiences that sparked a love of learning and ultimately shaped her career. Today, she designs modern libraries that serve as vibrant community hubs—spaces that support cultural exploration, creative making, and personal well-being. Her intimate understanding of library operations, shelving systems, collections, and patron needs ensures that every design is functional, flexible, and forward-thinking.
Whether you’re an architect looking for a trusted FF&E partner or a librarian planning your next big vision, Diane is ready to help bring it to life.
She received a B.A. in Design from UCLA and a M.A. in Interior and Environmental Design from Cornell University. Her company, Dotrio, Inc., is a certified California Small Business (SB) and she is NCIDQ certified.
